Pilar 7 Bridge Experience: the Lisbon attraction you can’t miss

Inaugurated in 2017, the Pilar 7 Bridge Experience owes its name to its location. In fact, it is located in the 7th pillar of the Ponte 25 de Abril and was one of the places we chose to visit on our last trip to Lisbon. In this post, we will tell you more details of one of the places we think you should totally visit in Lisbon.

As we approach its location, one thing that stands out is its modern architecture. The predominant colours are white and grey. You can purchase the tickets in a very bright room. There, you are directed to the entrance of the building and you have to pass through a metal detector (like in the airports).

The first sensory experience takes place in a first darkroom, Sala dos Trabalhadores (Workers Room), which is a tribute to those who built this magnificent work. There, you will listen to construction noises and watch a 360º video telling the story of this great work.

Then we move to another place where we can see the steel cables that support the bridge. When you pass through the 25 de Abril Bridge by car, you can not have a true notion of their size. It’s only when we’re there, one meter away, that we really realize it.

The second experience happens in a room whose floor is made up of mirrors, giving an idea of depth (not everyone will be able to enter there). And yes, it looks like we’re going to fall!

After this room, it’s time to climb to the top of the viewpoint. We’re told we can stay up there for 10 minutes. Something that pleased me was that the day we visited the viewpoint, there was no one else and we had the whole space for us. The viewpoint with a panoramic view is the ex-libris of the Pilar 7 Bridge Experience and from there we have a beautiful view over Lisbon.

When can I visit it?

The Pilar 7 Bridge Experience is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., from October to April, and from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., from May to September. The normal price is 6€. Students, +65 years or groups of 10 people pay 4€. Children up to 5 years old and holders of the Lisboa Card can enjoy their visit for free. It is also possible to enjoy a virtual reality experience that costs 1.50€.
